Computer Technology 1

Technology/Elective

Introduction to Computer Technology

This one-semester introductory class focuses on developing a general working knowledge of a wide variety of computer applications and concepts, paying special attention to internet research techniques and ethical use of technology. This is accomplished through short “building block” assignments followed by larger projects which utilize the skills learned from the building blocks.

Applications covered include

1. Standard office suite (word processor, spreadsheet, presentation); Adobe Photoshop and Image Ready,
2. HTML editor;
3. web browser; and
4. Windows OS.

Concepts include basic workings of computer hardware and peripherals. 

Business Applications of Technology

Technology/Elective

 

The BAT (Business Application of Technology) class is designed to introduce students to the creation of a personal small business or Non-profit agency. Students will be required to present their ideas to the class in a business environment. FBLA club participation will be highly encouraged.

Important focuses of the program during the first semester will be: Ethics, Business Planning, Business English, Business Math, and Establishing Mission, Concept and Vision, and uses of Advanced Word Processing, Advanced Spreadsheets, Advanced Presentation Software Concepts introduced during the second semester will be: Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Advertising, Contracts and Business Law, and uses of Advanced Publishing Software, Web Site Development, Planning and Coordination software. 

Film Production

Introduction to Film Production

Film Production teaches the basics of video production and editing.  Students will write and produce their own films using class equipment (cameras, computers, and software for editing). Students put lessons to work in a monthly production for pep assemblies. 

Television Production I

Introduction to Television Production

Students will learn basic techniques to successfully edit, produce, direct, and film a commercial, documentary, short film, and newscast. This course will teach students the use of I-Movie 4 and Final Cut Pro. Learning how to operate all kinds of cameras is essential to this class. Students are required to be camera operators in a real television station--Azteca America Network (Channel 66), with which SJCHS has a partnership. The student will be required to fulfill a shift once every 6 weeks for the duration of the school year. Uses of microphones, lights, and other TV equipment are taught.  

Television Production II

Vocational/Elective

Prerequisite; Television Production I

Students in this course are required to be control operators in a real television station--Azteca America Network (Channel 66). At this level, students will learn how to operate professional cameras as part of the required role of control operators for Channel 66. Students will master the use of Final Cut Pro as an editing tool, and techniques for voice-over and advanced skills for sound are learned. The rotation for work will vary depending on the enrollment of the class. Professional projects are assigned to the students to be completed in a timely fashion.
