Detention (from handbook)
Helpful Information About Detentions (from handbook)
The following is a partial list of common infractions subject to detention:
Food indoors, but out of the cafeteria
Uniform violations
Cell phone/electronics violations ( the cell phone will be confiscated pending parent pickup)
Locker/hallway disorder
Excessive tardiness (more than 3 per quarter)
Class disruption
Littering and locker mess
Detention is served on Mondays between 3:15 and 4:00 P.M., with the Dean. The Dean will add an extra day (Thursday) when students have more than one hour to serve. Should a holiday fall on a Monday, detention will be the next day, Tuesday. Students will be assigned to a detention date. Detention is posted outside the Dean’s office by Friday end of day, for detention the following Monday.
Detention supercedes all other activities and commitments. Students who fail to serve detention on their assigned date will be out of school, suspended. Students serving detention must arrive on time, be in uniform, and remain silent and awake. At the discretion of the presiding teacher, work for the school may be substituted for detention time. Disrupting detention is considered a serious infraction, possibly resulting in suspension and probation on dismissal.
Students who amass more than one unit of detention in a week will need to serve detention with the Dean an additional day, or days, that week, until their detentions are cleared. Students who amass more than 5 detentions in a week are subject to suspension pending a parent conference and creation of a plan of resolution with the Dean.
